Candler Park Plans Community Garden

Formal garden planned following growing community interest

Following widespread neighborhood interest with an informal effort last year, the First Existentialist Congregation of Candler Park plans to create a permanent community garden.

Rick Westbrook, the church's office manager, said the garden will have plots for flowers and vegetables and open to all.

He made a presentation to the Candler Park Neighborhood Organization Monday at its monthly meeting.

The garden, which he said could serve as an educational tool for children, might also feature goats and chickens as well as opportunities for farmers' markets.

Community gardens are popular staple in Atlanta with Kirkwood, Reynoldstown, East Atlanta Village and Oakhurst.
