Brew at the Zoo

Get your Memorial Day weekend started off in wild fashion with Brew at the Zoo, toasting the best things in nature.

Lions and tigers and… brews? Oh yes!

Get your Memorial Day weekend started off right this Saturday as hosts its fourth annual Brew at the Zoo and Wine Too from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

For those of you who like to literally walk on the wild side while you enjoy a glass of wine, then this is the perfect event for you. You can look at lemurs while sipping Leinenkugel, talk with Tigers as you toss back Terrapin, and you can even catch a ride on the Zoo train and carousel. After a few brews, that inner child will unleash its wild side.

“(You can) prowl the Zoo sampling beer and wine, hang out with the local wildlife, and listen to live music at the city’s only festival opportunity hosted in the home of nearly 2,000 animals from around the world,” Zoo Atlanta spokeswoman Keisha Hines told East Atlanta Patch.

In addition to the great beer and wine selection, the musical acts will get you moving and grooving as well. The event will feature the alternative hip-hop stylings of the Undergrads, the Joan Jett cover band the Cherry Bomb, lounge tunes from DJ Daryl W, and top 40 faves from Travis Riker. The night will cap off with a dance party featuring headliners the Superions and a live deejay set by B-52’s front man Fred Schneider.

“The tunes appeal to every taste,” Hines said. “There’s a wide variety of featured music throughout the Zoo.”

There are more than 70 beers available for sampling at the event, as well as wines featuring Salvida red and white sangria. For the non-drinker, and whomever you bring as your DD, the fine folks as Cascal are providing bottles of their all natural soda, which is handcrafted at a micro-brewery, giving you the feeling of superb soda drinking.

And to keep that kid in you feeling alive and well you can create your own pretzel jewelry, which you can choose to either eat or mount on your fridge when you get home, at the Snyder’s Pretzel Booth.

The zoo will be open as normal so you’ll get a chance to check out the giant pandas, gorillas, the World of Reptiles and you can also check out Amy’s Tree Theater for special animal encounters throughout the night.

So go howl at the moon with the wolves, or at least sip on a brew and go look at a monkey.

You know you want to.
