Wesley International Academy students, who study Mandarin daily, recently had the opportunity to stride across a massive map of China.
For 10 days in late January, Wesley middle-school students studied and stood upon the map, which took up one-third of the school auditorium, to research the history, culture, topography, and animals of Asia. The basketball court-sized National Geographic Giant Traveling Maps travels the country promoting geographic literacy to hundreds of thousands of students annually.
“When the map arrived we were all blown away,” said WIA Chinese-language teacher Lea Durdin. “It was beautiful, huge, and best of all… FUN! The students could not wait to get to the map each day."
