Why is there so much killing happening?

Can someone help me and others understand why there are so many killings happening in todays society? Parents killing their children, husbands killing their wife, the wife killing the husband, kids kill their parents what is going wrong? I can't believe so much hatred is going on in the world; I am getting distressed because there is so little love for one another in the world today.  If you are not safe around your own family where are you suppose to be able to go for some simply peace and comfort?  I feel we as parents have got to be stronger and sit  down with your children and discuss why some of them are so angry and are willing to just go out and take what they want.  I know the economy is in horrible shape but that should not and does not give anyone the right to just go out and take from others what they have earned.  I think these drugs are the main cause of so much crime; how did our system get so out of control and so drug ridden? Parents step up and be real parents to your children and stop being afraid of your own kids.
