$20.00
Celebrate early Mardi Gras with the “Abominable Sideshow” featuring Tommy Dean and friends, performing Friday January 25, 2013 to benefit Atlanta’s Seed and Feed Marching Abominable Endowment, Inc. at the First Existentialist Congregation in Candler Park from 7:00-11:00 p.m. Tommy Dean, former leader of eight-piece Atlanta dance band The League of Decency, now performs as a singing bassist with pianist partner Mike Ewbank, thrilling audiences with jazz standards, Rat Pack favorites and old school soul classics. Other notable local performers on the program include Candler Park musician Dale Mann’s “My Imaginary Band,” a four-piece “crockpot” of alternative rock, rounding out the evening with a crowd-pleasing blend of self-described “quirky but imaginative” music inspired by alt-rockers like Cake, Radiohead and White Stripes. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis; beer, wine and food from The Pickle will be available. Mardi Gras costumes and dance shoes encouraged and appreciated. Tax-deductible ticket price is $20, all proceeds benefiting The Seed and Feed Marching Abominable Endowment, Inc., a 501(c)3 charitable corporation formed 13 years ago to educate the public, and particularly aspiring musicians, in the art forms of marching band music.
Begun in 1974 as part of Kelly’s Seed and Feed Theatre in Atlanta, the Band originated as a temporary musical component for one of founder Kelly Morris’s theatrical productions. The musicians recruited for this early band found they enjoyed “being the band” and kept on playing together. The Seed and Feed continues to shock, thrill and surprise audiences with its zany costuming, wild antics and frequently fabulous musicianship. The S&FMA leads the Inman Park Festival parade every year and has played at venues as varied as the governor’s mansion, Phillips Arena and Turner Field, but still loves to perform at so-called “charity gigs” raising money for research on such things as
cancer, heart disease and multiple sclerosis. For tickets, email larrycsmith@gmail.com or brendamfindley1017@hotmail.com.
