Mary Hines, Master Gardener, will teach you important methods to keep those pesky pests away. Learn how to use crop rotation, companion planting, garden maintenance and organic products to control insects of the lawn in your ornamental landscape and vegetable garden. Mary will show you the most common pests (insects, fungi, bacteria, animals, viruses, etc.) of the garden and how to identify them; how to deter pests, how to select the best organic pesticide and to apply it properly; and knowing when to use chemical pesticides. 5 person minimum. Advanced registration required.

Established in 1997, The Oakhurst Community Garden of the Wylde Center offers a wide range of classes, programs and special events for individuals, families and youth on such topics as organic gardening, sustainable urban living, nutrition and health. Its popular youth program is one of the metro-area’s largest and offers year-round educational programs. The two on-site gardens serve as gathering spaces, wildlife habitats and demonstration gardens. To get involved, be sure to sign up for a class or become a volunteer or a member.
