Brass Knuckles Trigger 'Soft Lockdown' at Intown Academy
Police investigating incident in which student brought weapon to school.
OLD FOURTH WARD — Students and faculty of the Intown Academy were on lock-down Monday morning, following an incident in which a student brought in a weapon to class.
Atlanta police detained a unidentified student for bringing a set of brass knuckles to school, WSB reported.
Police said the school remained on a "soft lock-down" as they continued to investigate the situation and determine that there were no ongoing threats.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported the lock-down was later lifted after a sweep of the school found no guns on campus.
Gene Dunn, Intown Academy's principal of the charter school told AJC, "we went into a soft lock-down so that we could keep the kids contained,” he said. “We were afraid that a hard lock-down might panic somebody if there was a weapon.”
The incident comes after a shooting involving two students at Price Middle School in the Historic South Atlanta neighborhood.
