School-by-school CRCT Results Released
Results show statewide improvement but some problem areas remain in some East Atlanta Patch schools.
The Georgia Department of Education released the 2012 results of the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests.
The CRCT, taken annually by students in the 3rd through 8th grades, is a gauge that shows if schools are meeting academic goals, and if not, where improvement is needed.
At Thomasville Heights Elementary, for example, 78 percent of the 58 third graders who took the CRCT did not meet the standard on the math portion of the test. In comparison, at Drew Charter School, only 2½ percent of the 76 students who took the exam failed to meet the standard on mathematics.
Statewide, the percentage of 3rd students who exceeded the standards in 2012 compared with 2011 increased by:
- 7% in Reading
- 3% in English/Language Arts
- 3% in Math
- 3% in Science
- 4% in Social Studies

These school-by-school results follow the state DOE's release of district-by-district results last month.

Every single Drew 8th grader met or exceeded the CRTC reading standard. Half of them exceeded the standard. By contrast 12% of Coan 8th graders failed to meet the standard and only 20% exceeded.
The results compare favorable with those of Sutton, the North Atlanta feeder school, and were exceeded substantially only by Inman Middle in Midtown.
Oh, Atlanta Charter in Ormewood Park had results similar to those at Drew.
