OLD FOURTH WARD — Atlanta police have made an arrest in the Aug. 19, 2012 shooting death of a Decatur man in the Bedford-Pine section, near Central Park.

Jeremy S. Woods, 24, was arrested in Aiken, S.C. on Jan. 3 and is now in the Fulton County Jail.

He is charged with:

  • Murder
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Conspiracy to Commit a Crime

Police responded to a number of "shots fired" calls near Central Park at 3:50 a.m. on the day of the shooting.

Officers found Kentavious Ballard, 30, laying in the grass in the 400 block of Merritts Avenue.

He was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police say their preliminary investigation found a possible verbal argument between two groups of individuals led to the shooting.
