Police are looking for a gunman who shot a convenience store clerk late Wednesday night during an attempted robbery at .

The victim, who later died at Grady Memorial Hospital, was a popular convenience store owner whom the Atlanta Journal-Constitution identified as 48-year-old Suhrid Das.

Das' murder is the first in the neighborhood this year.

The shooting occurred at about 10 p.m. at the Banna Grocery store on Irwin and Howell streets, Atlanta police said.

"It's very unfortunate and sad," Matthew W. Garbett, president of the Fourth Ward Neighbors association, said. "Hopefully, we'll be able to find whoever did it quickly."

Hours later, someone broke into an apartment located above the store that is rented by Taria Camerino, robbing her and her family.

Camerino is owner of Sugar-Coated Radical, a sweets and confectionery shop that she relocated to Old Fourth Ward from Virginia-Highland last year.

In a Facebook posting, Camerino thanked customers and friends for their concern and told them she and her family were safe despite the ordeal.

It is unclear if the two incidents are related.

The robber scaled the wall of the building, smashed the window of one of the bedrooms and entered the home at about 6:15 a.m. just three hours after police left the crime scene in the grocery store below.

The man "demanded money threatened to kill us all," she wrote in a Facebook post. "I insisted I had money downstairs in the shop - he had to follow me- after I gave him all the money we made last week, he made my crawl under a table and hide til he left."
