Please Help Me Find My Dog

Beloved Reese is now missing following Edgewood home invasion

by Whitney X. Teufel

My dog Reese escaped from my house on La France Street during a home invasion which occurred at noon Friday, May 20.

It is unclear if they hurt her. She is very skittish to begin with, and much more scared now.

She is about 40 to 45 pounds, reddish in coloring, though her body is blond since her haircut. She has a bushy red tail.

She is a very sweet and gentle dog, please don’t chase her if you see her.

Please call me at 404-304-5042 if you see her.

Any help is appreciated.

We don't know each other, but have re-posted your story on my Facebook in case anyone see's her. I am in Decatur, so maybe she's around. I would also recommend calling shelters around town several times a day (as well as the vet)...you never know if someone may have turned her in.

Best of luck - sending good vibes to you and your pup. :O(

Saw this on FB Just wanted to let you know there has been a rather skitish dog that looks similar to yours hanging around the pets playhouse on ponce..the people there are trying to feed it and get it close but he/she won't get close enough to pet but will get close enough to be in almost steps from you. She/he is there almost every day and the playhouse staff is trying to get her/him to look for a chip..maybe you should look over there to see if it's yours the dog seems to truly want to be with people but is a bit scared right now. I hope this might help.

for what its worth...when my guy got loose i read an article that said the more skittish/shy the dog is the closer it will stay to the place he/she got lost. proved very true for him. put food/water out and the little girl might find her way back. also a good tip, tie her fave toy (or a raggedy shirt of yours) to the mailbox or somewhere else a bit higher off the ground. they can pick up familiar smells quite far distances. good luck!!!

I posed this on facebook and a friend of mine who recently lost his sweet, shy pup gave me some advice to pass along.

I believe I saw this dog last week. I was driving by and I saw a dog trotting down the sidewalk. I know this isn't much help but since you said you didn't know if the people that invaded your home hurt her, I thought I'd tell you she didn't look hurt at all. I will post this on facebook since I live in the area and have some friends who do too. Good Luck!

There are people who have search dogs that locate or try to locate lost dogs by their scent . I would look into it . When you find her I would put a GPS on her incase this ever happens again .I live in Memphis good luck !

so far, nothing. I have had a couple of possible sightings in Kirkwood- but the callers could not give me any locations other then the Kirkwood neighborhood.
I have been looking extensively, and leaving food in a feew possible locations.
I think she is out there and too scared to come out. The one credible sighting that I was called about was at 3am- I think she will only come out after dark when it is cool and quiet.
I a[ppreciate all of your messages!

Is there anything we can all do to help you find your dog?

I appreciate the offer, but i dont really know what else to do... I am leaving food at a few spots, hopeing that she will come out. I have flyers all over. I think she is hiding in someones's yard- maybe under a deck.
I am not sure what else to do.

Can you ask to borrow a trap from the humane society or a rescue group? Where was the dog seen at 3 am?

I suggested to 11Alive that they do the story and I heard this morning they were working on it. Have you heard anything?

I also posted this on my FB, as well as the FB page for my rescue group, which has almost 600 followers. I have been involved in a few lost dog searches, including one for my own dog. She went missing for 17 days and we found her - don't give up hope. It was this time 2 years ago, and I was so worried about her outside in the heat, but we found her. The most important thing is to keep spreading the word about her. If the flyers start coming down or wearing from the weather, update them. People need to know where/who they call if they spot her. You should also take one of her flyers to area animal control facilities, so that if she is picked up, they know she belongs to you. And you should walk the cages at your local animal control every few days just to make sure she hasn't been picked up. It's heartbreaking, but needs to be done. And you are correct - dogs move very late at night and very early in the morning because there are less people around and because it is cooler. You may want to search very early in the morning. I will continue to pray that she is found. I know how heartbroken you are right now - I've been in your shoes.

I think she might have moved across Hosea, between Hosea and Memorial. I havent concentrated on that area at all yet. I received the calls from Kirkwood from people that saw her and couldnt pinpoint where. I am thinking that maybe they saw the signs when the relocated. I am going to hang flyers in that area tomorrow morning.
i greatly appreciate you offers to help. I am hoping that she is laying low until the temps drop....
