NPU-O Meeting Scheduled Tonight

On the agenda: Kirkwood Wine Stroll and impact fees ordinance revision.

 Neighborhood Planning Unit-O, which includes East Lake, the Villages of East Lake, Kirkwood and Edgewood, is scheduled to meetat 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Bessie Branham Recreation Center, 2051 Delano Drive NE.

Two key items up for a vote:

  • Event & Alcohol Permit - Kirkwood Wine Stroll One day non-profit wine permit and special event permit. Kirkwood Business Owners Association (KBOA) applicant, Joe Alcock Agent. September 28th in Kirkwood Business District.
  • City Legislation - Ordinance 11-O-1237 Impact Fees Revision - (See Fact Sheet PDF). An ordinance to update the 1994 impact fee schedule, create an Impact Fee Director, and to align City of Atlanta ordinance to 2007 State of Georgia  legislation. Please refer to fact sheet for details. Impact fees fund transportation, police, fire, and park costs originating from new development.

The NPU approved the Kirkwood Wine Stroll license and had a long discussion on the impact fees, but decided we couldn't decide on it because we really don't know what the ordinance contains. There is great resentment among small business owners over impact fees they have to pay but that big companies building in areas like the Beltline don't have to pay. Why should we subsidize them, they adk.
