I second the Village Vets. Dr. Draper and staff have taken care of my dog for almost 9 years, and treat her as if she was one of their own. They go above and beyond with regard to her care (she has anxiety issues), and I appreciate that I can contact them via email if I have questions.

Dr. Tyler (Lilburn) saw our Nutmeg immediately after we rescued her from the street 10 years ago, and Dr. Draper (Decatur) was kindly when we first rescued Peanut likewise four years ago. Dr. Prather (Lilburn) has handled all three of ours (Cheyenne included) through several crises in the last year or so. The entire staff is always attentive, friendly and understanding - and maintain a regular open line of communication. Could not ask for a better crew all the way around !!

I whole-heartedly agree with nomination of Dr. Kim Roberts, DVM. She has not only taken care of our 5 four-legged children for the past 10+ years. She has seen us through two losses with unfailing compassion and comfort. Additionally, I chaired a pet-related fundraising event for the American Cancer Society and Dr. Roberts served as the veterinarian for the event. She did so as a volunteer and received no compensation for the Saturday event despite the fact that her practice was open that day. She's a gem!!

Dr. Adam Calcutt at The Village Vets in Decatur! After my pug ate wild mushrooms and suffered several (terrifying) seizures, Dr. Calcutt kept us both calm and kept her from going into liver failure. 11:54 pm on Wednesday, June 20, 2012
Good point Rick. I would think any vet that did not diagnose your tabby with a rare form of feline whooping cough that costs 6-7K to cure and forces you to fly her first class to Baltimore for treatment would be a good vet.
B L
2:59 am on Friday, June 22, 2012
Clicker, is there really such thing as a rare form of whooping cough in tabbies, or were you just being facetious? Funny (or maybe not), because I'm about to bring the Lynx point (Tabby Point) Siamese cat we rescued to the vet for his checkup after being neutered at Lifeline Animal Clinic & he has this strange intermittent coughing thing going on!

I would have agreed with you, Rick, since I usually just take whatever vet is available at the clinic. But then by luck of the draw I got Dr. Hedge at Briarcliff Animal Clinic. I've liked all the vets there, but she's now my favorite. Very practical and reassuring. In fact I'd like to also give a thumbs-up to the nail-clipping techs there because they were always very forgiving about my mean cat!

Definitely Dr. Lloyd - definitely a cat whisperer. When we take our Myst in, he'll drape her around his shoulders and walk around the office for awhile, just to calm her down before he begins the exam. I've never seen ANYONE able to do that with Myst - not even us, at times. And when we lost our dear Whisper, he made a special trip in to see us. I really think he was almost as sad about it as we were.

7:06 pm on Saturday, June 30, 2012
Dr. Starnes is a good vet, but the office is overly booked. When I first moved here I went to East Atlanta and would have to wait for at least 30 minutes for my appointment and any phone call would put me on hold for at least 10 minutes. When they moved to online prescriptions, there would be lapses in medication for my dog that needed heart meds. I think they need to pay more attention to their booking and long range effects on their clients.

Powers Ferry Animal Hospital is our favorite. We've been going there with our dogs for the past 17 years. Every doctor is knowledgable and compassionate about animals. This practice is owned by Dr. Andy Smith and each of his associates are caring and understanding. We've had to put two dogs down since we've lived here and they have been so understanding through this sad process. They seem to know what you are going through. Kuddos to Dr. Scott Miller and Dr. Meg Wright for being with us on this last go around of losing a beloved pet. I respect the Veterinarians at Village Vets both in Decatur and Buckhead. Dr Landrum from the Decatur office saved the life of REED a Jack Russell Terrier, Reed was rescued from a north Georgia Shelter only days before meeting Dr Landrum. Reed was on the verge of organ failure from not getting oxygenated blood to his organs. Dr Landrum make a quick and accurate diagnosis about Reeds condition in the wee hours of the morning, Dr Landrum had the skill, knowledge, courage and confidence, do go through Reeds jugular to pull from REED, the worms blocking the flow to his small body, saving his life. Dr Landrum, is a remarkable veterinarian.
REED is thriving today, getting ready to start the next phase of his heart worm treatment. Reed says, thanks Dr Landrum!!
Many Blessing to the talent here at the Village Vets.

The favorite vet question was posed on the Brookhaven Patch so I assume that most of the responses are from those that live in Brookhaven, correct? Most of the responses are from vets far outside of Brookhaven. Do people really venture to Decatur (not too bad), Smyrna and Johns Creek for veterinary care? That seems like quite a commute.

Rick,
A lot of Vets have a specialty that pet owners will travel any distance for and that is how we wind up changing Vets. After going To Dr.Woody's at Ansley with nothing but good things to say about it I now drive all the way from midtown to Sandy Springs (Centre Court Clinic) because I added a French Bulldog to my brood.
btw, you're right that the Cat Doctor is expensive but a few years back when I had a cat with cancer, they seemed worth every penny!

I recently started taking my dogs to Ormewood and love it there. Dr. Price is an amazing animal lover and makes me feel like my kids are hers. When I arrive for an appointment, that appointment is ON TIME (awesome!!!!) and when I take them in for a nail clipping it happens right away. Love the people and the customer service. Thanks Ormewood!!!!

Paws Whiskers and Claws in east Cobb. Went to several that didn't have the passion prior to these folks. These people know their stuff and put time and effort into their customers. I have two other friends who use these guys exclusively, regardless of travel time.

Clairmont Animal Hospital. Dr. Hiro, Dr. Bradley, Dr. George, they are all great. The Vet Techs and the staff are all so nice and professional. I just love when the vets come in the room and let our dogs lick all over their faces as if they were their own. I feel lucky to have found this vet practice.

The Village Vets of Decatur entire staff is amazing. I am personally partial to Dr. Brigit Villines, who works so dilligently with local rescue groups through the Decatur office. She has personally cared for my Cavalier, Lily, and has always openly taken my suggestions in courses of action for treatment. Everyone there works tirelessly to provide quality care for all animals they come in contact with on a daily basis! Wouldn't take my pet anywhere else!
