MARTA Approves I-20 Transportation Project

Project would be partially funded by transportation tax

MARTA's board of directors approved on Monday a $1.9 billion project that would connect downtown Atlanta to central DeKalb County.

Heavy rail would connect the current Indian Creek MARTA station to the mall at Stonecrest along the I-20 corridor. Enhanced bus service would connect downtown Atlanta to a proposed new station on Wesley Chapel Road.

About $225 million of taxpayer money would kickstart the project if voters in July approve a penny-sales tax earmarked for regional transportation improvments.
