Latest Grant Park Crime Alert: Watch Out for Car Thieves

Over the past weekend, there were at least three cars beak-ins.

GRANT PARK — The Grant Park Neighborhood Association continues to do its part to make residents aware of crime and how to be proactive in reducing it.  The association just reported that over the last weekend there were a number of car break-ins and items taken from cars.

GPNA reported that "on Sunday, Feb. 10 at about 7 p.m., a neighbor observed a young black male pulling door handles of vehicles on his street. The thief took off and jumped into a two-door Honda hatchback."

The reports states at least three vehicles were burglarized on Killian, Cameron and Rosalia streets.

Officers from the Atlanta Police Department's Zone 6 responded quickly according to witnesses and concluded the thief or thieves likely had a "slim-jim" or some other tool that allowed them entry into locked cars.

Just Monday, a man was stopped and detained by the Grant Park Security Patrol after he was observed with a children's bike.

The man was found behind a house near Georgia Avenue and Connally Street.  If you believe the bike is yours, please visit the Grant Park website for a description and directions on how to recover it.

Residents are asked to call 911 if they see any suspicious persons.

Recent patterns indicate that the thieves are driving around the area in cars, jumping out on a street, and then pulling door handles or somehow getting into parked vehicles.

I feel so bad for Grant Park. They and their neighbor Ormewood Park have been having a tough time with crime for a while now. Such beautiful neighborhoods too. Ironic that I feel like they have had it way worse than my hood and I live in O4W!

Perhaps $100's of millions in public investment and a dedicated mini-precinct (like O4W) would help GP/OP?

Jason, I agree. The police precinct already in Grant Park doesn't even serve the Grant Park area.
