A school-by-school comparison of institutions in East Atlanta Patch

When it comes to determining what's a "good" school, there are plenty of factors that play into the mix: quality of teachers and principals, parental involvement and civic and business support. Numbers, in the form of standardized tests also are a factor. While numbers don't tell the whole story, they do help give a picture of the quality of the school.

This chart reflects the elementary schools in East Atlanta Patch, ranking them out of all 1,176 statewide, based on the 2011 CRCT test results of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders combined.

Based on the numbers, students had the best showing of all institutions in the Patch, with Drew ranking 93 statewide. Citywide, only students at Sprindale Park, Morningside and Jackson elementary schools did better than Drew, with statewide rankings of 35, 45 and 77, respectively.

How well or poorly students perform on stanardized tests will factor in the discussions parents will have tonight when the district holds a meeting to discuss the proposed consolidations and closures.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at Parkside Elementary School in Grant Park, 685 Mercer St. SE.
