Guntoting Teens Attempt Carjacking In Reynoldstown

Victim was attacked in the MillTown Lofts; gunmen ran off after car failed to start.

Atlanta police are looking for two teens who attempted to carjack a woman at gunpoint Friday night shortly after she came home.

The victim was attacked shortly after 11:15 p.m. at the MillTown Lofts in the 800 block of Wylie Street.

She said she parked her car, went to retrieve her mail and was headed toward her home when two males came up behind her, grabbed her and showed her a gun.

The victim began screaming, threw a drink she had in her hand while they stole the keys to her vehicle.

The car wouldn't start and they ran off, but not before they pointed their gun at another woman who witnessed the attack.

This latest incident comes amid a string of high-profile crimes that have hit East Atlanta Patch neighborhoods in recent weeks, including: attempted kidnappings in Edgewood and Reynoldstown, an armed robbery in Inman Park, a carjacking and armed robbery in Ormewood Park and another carjacking in South DeKalb County.

In the week of March 22 alone, there were a reported 50 auto break-ins, throughout APD's Zone 6, which includes most of East Atlanta Patch as well as Virginia-Highland and Poncey-Highland.

But Maj. Keith Meadows, Zone 6 commander, said last week he reconfigured patrol assignments and cut the car break-ins by half a week later.

Anyone with information about any of the recent crimes is urged to call 911 or Atlanta Crime Stoppers at 404.577.TIPS (8477).
