Gunman Robs Two Women in Inman Park
Gunman fired shots at both before taking off.
Two women were robbed at gunpoint early Sunday in the 300 block of North Highland Avenue, Atlanta police said.
The victims — ages 26 and 27 — had just left a nearby restaurant at about 1 a.m. and were walking north on North Highland when a man approached them from behind, stuck a gun in the back of the older woman and snatched at her purse.
She began to struggle and her friend tried to help.
But then the man fired a shot at both women above their heads.
The women jumped into some nearby bushes while the gunman ran west toward Freedom Park with one victim's purse, which contained her driver's license, two credit cards, a bank debit card and mobile phone.
There were no cameras in the area of incident and no other witnesses have as yet come forward.
Channel 2 Action News reported the man was busy, having charged $5,000 on the victim's credit card, including $3,400 in online purchases and the balance at local convenience stores.
The victim told the news station police have video surveillance of the gunman using her card to make purchases.
"He grabbed her purse and charged $5,000 worth of stuff that night on her card," the woman said.
She said police already have surveillance video of the man charging some of the items. He spent $3,400 online and more at local convenience stores.
The gunman, whom the victims described as "nicely dressed," is black and last seen wearing a blue or blue plaid shirt.
