Fundraisers for Cancer-Stricken East Atlanta Firefighter
Glenwood restaurant to host event for captain from Station 13.
The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department's Station 13, here in East Atlanta, is hosting a fundraiser at the Glenwood Neighborhood Pub Aug. 25 to collect funds to help offset expenses stemming from an illness one of their own is battling.
A 20-year veteran of AFRD, Capt. Greg Wise went to the hospital for what he thought was appendicitis, Chris Chaffin, a co-worker and friend, told East Atlanta Patch.
It turned out to be cancer, Chaffin said.
Chaffin and fellow fireman, Joey Shoemaker, are responsible for the 7 p.m. fundraiser at the Glenwood, which will feature drink specials food and live music.
"He's been on the job for over 20 years and we're trying to do a benefit to raise money because he was the main breadwinner for his family," Chaffin said. "He's a great guy and good with people. He's a people person."
A seperate event, sponsored by the Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund, is scheduled for this Saturday, Aug. 11, in Marietta at the Wild Wing Café, 2145 Roswell Road.
The lobster bake at Wild Wing Café is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
