From Echo Lounge To Asylum

EAV music venue to reopen as bar featuring live music.

The Echo Lounge-turned-Icehouse is going through its third live music iteration.

"Asylum" is the name for the new venue at 543 Flat Shoals Ave.

Though the signs are up, the interior is still being put together.

When East Atlanta Patch went to inquire about Asylum on Friday we were told the owner would be on the premises April 28 to get more info about the concept.

The site is best known as the Echo Lounge, live music venue that featured national indie acts and local- and Athens-based up-and-comers.

After the Echo Lounge closed following some entanglements with the city, it reopened as the Icehouse.

But the Icehouse's days were short-lived and it shuttered several months later.

My mother worked in a hospital for people who were mentally disturbed. "Asylum" conjures up the stories she used to tell us.

In ancient Greece the temples, altars, sacred groves, and statues of the gods generally possessed the privileges of protecting slaves, debtors, and criminals, who fled to them for refuge. Thanks.

Typical examples are the echo produced by the bottom of a well, by a building, or by the walls of an enclosed room and an empty room. A true echo is a single reflection of the sound source. Thanks.
