UPDATED: Fire Breaks Out at Little 5 Corner Tavern

No injuries reported.

LITTLE FIVE POINTS — A two-alarm fire broke out Thursday afterrnoon at the Little 5 Corner Tavern, forcing the closure of the intersection of Moreland and Euclid avenues for several hours.

Fire officials said an immediate cause of the blaze was not yet determined.

No injuries were reported, but the Corner Tavern's office cat did need medical attention.

Local musician Matt Matson, a waiter at the Corner Tavern, rescued the cat and fire officials attemted to save it. Despite their efforts, the kitty died.

The fire appeared to affect only the Corner Tavern and not adjoining businesses, a fire department spokeswoman said.

It's not clear when the bar might reopen.

In a Facebook post, the Corner Tavern thanked its customers for their support:

"Super sad about todays events but my love for L5 is even stronger. Thanks to the neighborhood for their support today and our L5PCT staff is just the best in town..I mean it."
