Election 2012: What Are Your Questions for John Lewis and Michael Johnson?
The 5th Congressional District pits incumbent Rep. John Lewis against Judge Michael Johnson for the Democratic nomination.
The 5th Congressional District represents a diverse swath of metro Atlanta that stretches from Buckhead to Forest Park and Decatur to Sandtown.
U.S. Rep. John Lewis is the incumbent running against Michael Johnson, the former Fulton County Superior Court judge, in the Democratic primary July 31.
The winner will go on to face Atlanta divorce attorney Howard Stopeck, the Republican candidate.
On Sunday, July 29, the Atlanta Press Club is sponsoring a debate between the Lewis and Johnson, that is scheduled to air from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Georgia Public Broadcasting's WGTV.
The candidates will be asked a series of questions from metro Atlanta reporters, including Patch.
To be as inclusive and representative as possible, we want to know what questions do you have of the candidates?
What issue or issues are you wanting them to address and answer to help you decide for whom you'll cast your vote?

Congress has been too partisan and/or tied to interest groups (and their money) to play an integral part in helping the country solve its most pressing problems. What do either of these candidates plan to do to get that body to become a working organization?

it seems like legislators supply an endless stream of laws and regulations meant to improve safety and security without regard to the reduction in freedom and burden of compliance. The end result being we as citizens find ourselves pitted against our own government anytime we want to make anything or building anything or have a little fun. What can we do as citizens to reign in this mindset? Should we look to cap the total number of laws so that when new ones are passed old ones have to be deleted?

Cong. Lewis if you were to win this time around what exactly, would you do to ensure that all preschool children are receiving the education needed to start Kindergarten on track in the underserved communities?
Judge Johnson, how can we protect the education of our underserved communities to ensure that all preschool children receive the same quality education when moving to the next level which is Kindergarten. If they are kindergarten ready, why does a child have to repeat what they already know? Ever thought of screening the child and if they are ready, challenge them on the next level instead of teaching all children on the same level. Education is not a cookie cutter approach.

cong. lewis I don't believe that most of us are aware that you have not given our president your full support on many key issues. You voted aganist the stimulus bill, etc. No one can deny that you were one of the key players in the civil right movement and walked with Dr. MLKing etc
. We need more than your popularity. It is time for a candidate with a purpose. However, We want to know what you intend to do to make a change that will include issues and concerns that will benefit all americans in this present age.

Ms. Ferguson, you are incorrect and have misstated Congressman Lewis' voting record. He voted YES on the stimulus bill on January 28, 2009 as well as YES on the amendments to it on February 13, 2009. See: http://votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/26820/john-lewis
Rep. Lewis has always voted with integrity, and that has been a strong supporter of President Obama. I have never felt so well represented on so many issues. If you want a change, you need to state why factually, and not by distorting or telling falsehoods "etc" about the voting record and positions of a man of such unassailable principles.
I know where Congressman Lewis stands on the issues. My questions for Michael Johnson are: 1- are you 100% pro-choice? (yes or no) 2- do you support repealing DOMA? 3- would you have voted for or against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and 4- would you vote in favor of military action/war against Iran?
Thank you, ~N~
