Coan Middle School Registration Dates Set
Parents urged to sign up during set dates for 2012-13 school year.
Parents with rising sixth graders in the Coan Middle School attendance zone are reminded to register their children for the upcoming school year.
This upcoming school year, those attending Coan will be temporarily relocated to the former East Lake Elementary campus because Jackson High School is undergoing a multimillion refurbishing. Jackson students will relocate to Coan's campus.
All registration for Coan students will take place at East Lake Elementary, 145 4th Ave. (404.802.6600).
Student registration dates:
- June 26th, 27th and 28th: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- July 25, 26th and 27th: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- July 30th and 31st: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
6th Grade Orientation:
- June 25 through the 28th: 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Registration and all Coan Middle School activities will base out of this location for the 2012-2013 school year.

Why not leave the Coan students in Coan and relocate the Jackson High kids to East Lake? That doesn't make sense--moving two student bodies instead of one.

I thought the same thing, too, Debbie, but as an adult, if you go into an elementary school and try to sit at one of the desks or use the bathroom, you see that everything is built for pint-sized people. I think the middle school is better suited to high school kids than the elementary school.

The elementary school does not have the room. Coan has room for 900 students, and even with that space the HS has added trailers, as HS needs lab and other space the MS does not.
