Members and staff of the Atlanta City Council celebrated the holiday season on Thursday, Dec. 13, by donating dozens of toys for children at Sheltering Arms, the Atlanta-based early childhood education program with locations Downtown an Edgewood.

Sheltering Arms is one of the oldest nonprofits serving children in Georgia. The organization serves hardworking families with high quality, affordable child care, education, and comprehensive support services that support more than 3,600 children in 16 centers across the Atlanta area.

Employees from each district office as well as those of the communications and research & policy departments came out to 200 Peachtree St. for a holiday luncheon and toy drive to benefit the children of Sheltering Arms. The staff of 200 Peachtree donated their space and council members provided food for all in attendance.

“I am pleased that the council members and the council staff came together to donate to such a worthy cause,” Council President Caesar C. Mitchell said. “The toy donation captures the true meaning of the holiday season.”

Staff from Sheltering Arms were in attendance to receive all donations.
