Carjacking in Home Grown Parking Lot
Victim was texting in her car when gunmen pounced, pushed and struck her.
Atlanta police are looking for four men who robbed a woman late Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Home Grown restaurant on Memorial Drive.
The victim told police she was parked in the restaurant's lot at the corner of Memorial and Gibson Street SE at about 10 p.m. She said was in the middle of texting when a van suddenly pulled up alongside her 2005 black Honda Civic (license plate No. BIN6013).
Four men in their late teens jumped out of the van. One of them, armed with a silver handgun, called her derogatory name, pushed and hit her.
He snatched her mobile phone and car keys.
The victim said it was too dark to get good descriptions of her assailants, but a witness who heard the woman's screams, told police he saw one of the men get into her Honda and that the others followed in a late-model maroon-colored Dodge Caravan. They were last seen heading west on Memorial Drive.

I have a feeling that it's the same pack of rabid teens that have been going around car jacking people at Enso, Glenwood, and other places. Highly organized, same bling in the reports, and the same silver handgun.
Next, we'll be sing a black Honda doing a carjacking or the like.

People can help avoid some situations like this by being more aware of their surroundings. Criminals have it so easy when people start focusing on their phones, etc and don't realize that danger is nearby.

Will a gun in your house prevent a carjacking?

Sounds like she was doing the responsible thing and not texting and driving. Damn shame this happened to her. It wasn't 4am, It was 10pm on a busy street.

Not that busy a street, and 10 pm is too late for a single female (not sexist; these gusy are opportunists, and a single person/female is the least intimidating target, to them) to be sitting in a parking lot. Lots happening lately in these parts of town, and yes, although growing, it's not the "new normal." Especially if we as a neighborhood don't give them any opportunities.

I so agree with you @J.Isabel. I am a woman and I try not to leave my home after dark period unless I have someone else with me.

In a couple of months, it's going to be dark when many of us are simply driving home from work. If "stay in the house when it's dark" is the solution, then we have a very very big problem.

No we should not "stop going out at night" We live in these parts of town because we like walkable neighborhoods with lots of things to do. However, this girl put herself at risk by sitting in a desolate parking lot, alone at night while not paying attention to her surroundings. People need to stop making themselves easy targets. Like this girl.

I am a female wearing a wedding ring, does that mean I am "asking" for it? A crime is a crime! Catch them and get them off of the streets! Why are people so quick to not blame the actual criminal?!?!?

Of the criminal is in the wrong but people have to be aware. Sadly most people are in their own little world and very unaware.
