UPDATE: Atlanta City Council Approves New Districts

Candler Park has been redrawn into a new district.


The Atlanta City Council gave its formal stamp of approval to new district maps on Monday during its regular business meeting.

The map, known as Plan 6, now goes onto Mayor Kasim Reed for approval, and then onto the U.S. Department of Justice.

Candler Park would be part of Councilman Kwanza Hall's 2nd District under the proposal.

Currently, the community is part of Councilman Alex Wan’s 6th District.

In order to account for 2010 census data, each of the city’s 12 districts must have a population of at least 35,000.

Cities, counties and states are required by law to redraw and adjust their electoral boundaries when a new Census is completed, to reflect new population numbers and demographics. A citizen who lived in one city council district may live in another after the boundaries have been redrawn and approved.
