Candidate Forum Set for Tuesday

Hear from candidates battling to represent Old Fourth Ward, Reynoldstown, Cabbagetown and Grant Park.

Tonight, July 24, hear from the Democrats vying for the District 57 and 58 seats at a candidate forum hosted by the Virginia-Highland Civic Association.

In District 57, incumbents Rep. Pat Gardner and Rep. Rashad Taylor will face off in what is expected to be a heated race. There is no Republican opposition.

Gardner has represented District 57 for almost 12 years. As redrawn, the district now includes a tiny portion of Summerhill, a piece of the Capitol Gateway community and the portion of Downtown around the Georgia State University campus, among other communities.

Incumbents Rep. Simone Bell and Rep. Ralph Long are running for the District 58 seat.

The newly redrawn district includes portions of Old Fourth Ward, Sweet Auburn, Cabbagetown, Reynoldstown, Grant Park, Summerhill, Turner Field, Capitol View and Lakewood Heights. The winner will move on to face Republican Earl Cooper in the general election.

All five candidates are expected to attend the forum.

If you go: Candidate forum, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at Inman Middle School, 774 Virginia Ave.
