Former Inman Middle School principal Betsy Bockman will leave her current job as interim area superintendent next month to take the top job at Coan Middle School.
Bockman will take over as principal of Coan Middle School in Edgewood in July, she told Patch late Monday.
The Atlanta Public Schools board of education made the move official Monday night and voted to appoint Bockman into her new role.
"I interviewed for the Coan principalship because I was intrigued by the possibilities," she said. "I enjoy working with students, families, and teachers to develop the best educational environment possible for each student."
She was named interim area superintendent in July 2011 when Superintendent Erroll B. Davis tapped a team of leaders to replace the Beverly Hall administration.
Before her promotion, Bockman served as principal of Inman Middle School for eight years and principal of Morningside Elementary School for four years.
"There are so many terrific educational initiatives to come for the neighborhoods of East Lake, Kirkwood, East Atlanta, Reynoldstown and Whitefoord," she said. "I am thrilled to be a part of it all."
Editor's Note: The original version of this story incorrectly listed the location of Coan Middle School. The school is located in the Edgewood neighborhood. Patch regrets this error.

Congrats to a lady who understands the value of involving the whole community in the education process. Parents or not, the citizens of the Coan School district will all benefit from her leadership skills.

This is great news. Welcome, Dr. Bockman! Technically, though, Coan Middle is located in Edgewood, which is also the name of the neighborhood served by Whitefoord Elementary.

Dr. Bockman is one of the most intelligent and caring professionals I have ever known. Congratulations! Coan MS is most fortunate to be gaining Dr. Bockman!
