APS Redistricting: Whitefoord Elementary, A 'Hidden Gem'
Edgewood's neighborhood school has many reasons why it should stay open.
In the Atlanta Public Schools' redistricting debate, the Edgewood community, like others, has rallied around its neighborhood schools.
Under one of the two demographers' options, Edgewood's Whitefoord Elementary would close and its 240 students sent to Burgess-Peterson Academy in East Atlanta.
The other has the school remaining open with students from the Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown neighborhoods being rezoned to attend Whitefoord, which opened in 1923. The Orgnanized Neighbors of Edgewood support this option.
In this Patch Voices editorial, the Rev. Carrie Dean, co-pastor of the Edgewood Church and member of the local school council at Whitefoord, explains why this "hidden gem" in Atlanta should remain open and its importance to the community.

Amen to that! A great little school for almost 90 years, with a bright future. The number of young families in Edgewood is growing, and we hope the school will be there for our children, as we commit to be there for the school.
