Several Atlanta Public Schools are hosting open house events for parents, students and the community today in advance of the Aug. 6 first day of classes for the 2012-13 school year.

The activities include registration and informational meetings, along with fun and engaging events and colorful displays.

 The open houses in East Atlanta Patch schools include:

• Burgess-Peterson Academy, 480 Clifton St. SE – 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
• Toomer Elementary School, 65 Rogers St. SE – 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
