Black males ages 14 to 35, commit over 70% of violent crime in america, while comprising less than 4% of the population, and contributing less than 1/10 of 1% to the gross national product. It's, "Time for a change" all right.

It's time to change this culture of violence, ignorance, immorallity, and hatred of everything white. Just google Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom to see just what these "People" are "Really" capable of.

What can we do to help our young men? I work in the prison system. I would venture to say that 65% of the young men I come across between the ages of 18-25 do not have a high school diploma. This number is probably higher. One can never justify taking another person’s life or dealing drug as a means for a life style to support a family. Each act is selfish. Unfortunately for some, the prison doors are revolving. There are ex inmates feel that society has nothing to offer them because of their past crimes. Should the prison educate the inmate between the ages of 18-30? Should they be taught a trade that would prepare them for work once they leave?

Do re-entry programs help? What do we about the young man who raised himself because his parents were on drugs? Street survival is what they know. Moreover, it is all about survival for them. Have we failed these young men Black and White if they are apart of our families? Have we dropped the ball?

Perhaps their parents dropped the ball. Perhaps they threw the ball away. I worked with criminals, heavy end - for years, some are open to rehabilitation and some are not. Of the latter you cannot do for them what they will not do for themselves.

I've taken down some comments. I'm all for debate and the exchange of open dialogue even if the viewpoints are extreme. But some comments crossed the line so I've deleted them. The point of open commenting on stories is to allow people to express their views, give their perspectives and offer ideas. It can be done without resorting to name calling and other vulgarities.

yikes, some people take the biblical phrase "be fruitful and multiply" way too literally. We as a society have let morals take a back seat so to speak. Most teenagers are sexually active, too many girls are becoming mothers, boys well they choose not to step up to the plate when it comes to their responsibilities. They will remain boys forever....men nurture, support, and raise their children, boys brag about how many children they produce, period.The traditional two parent family is few and far between, coupled with the lack of morals, the "I want it now", a sense of entitlement. Yet if these young people don't get what they want, when they want it, they have a temper tantrum...an adult size temper tantrum, which usually escalates to and ends in violence. These young people (many, not all) have grown physically but not mentally, emotionally, or intellectually, and will be unable to become mature adults. Examples being huge prison populations, and gangs. Gangs fill a void in people and usually the emotionally weak gravitate toward them to fill a need missing since childhood. Next stop....prison. When they get out, who will hire them? The circle of crime continues.

I think the correlation between race and crime statistics is not inherent to the race itself genetically - but because the race is more likely exposed to a higher crime rate due to surrounding societal issues. So the "racist" inferences about blacks being involved in more crime statistically per 100 citizens is true - but it is caused by societal conditions which are not easily remedied for our black and other nonwhite citizens. As a white male in his 50s, I have seen bad things in ALL walks of life, ALL socioeconomic classes, and ALL races and ethnicities. I have also seen lots of good things as well - for example - one time when I was attacked riding a bicycle through Watts (I was lost and new to CA) it was young black men that saved my life... Don't judge the race as if one is inferior to the other - judge the conditions the race is exposed to and the answers began to become obvious I believe.

Brutality is not a monopoly of any race, can you say nazi, crusaders, Aztecs? It is a human trait. From "white to black and everything in between" Was the native people of this country who went to Europe to kill and take the land by force? I read every single comment on this board before commenting and the onl racist remarks were the ones mentioning Africa or 'go back where you came from'. The rest of the comments (other than a few who think calling other posters names or cussing to get the point across) were a mixture of fact and educated opinion. I have had the opportunity to live in 5 different states in America and I can tell you from personal experience there was never a time looking for a home where I wasn't saddened to find out that the most beautiful homes were in the worse neighborhoods. Run down, crime ridden and a mostly black population. Also I have had the personal experience of getting to move so many times because we were a military family. Those of you mentioning education, street living, broken or non existant families, and government money without having to work for it as reasons there is more black crime (btw most black crime is black on black crime) are right on. The militart is full of black men and women who are happy, educated, willing to work hard, have intact families and live somewhere other than substandard, crime ridden neighborhoods. There are white, brown, yellow and red people just as bad. To aid these groups should be reviewed very seriously. But our government is so entangled it will take the American public to start standing up and directing those people. I don't mean in comment sections such as this. Groups start getting together to make changes. Start within your own neighborhood and grow from there. This will take years but we have to start somewheres. Living in 'the hood' doesn't mean you are a criminal. It means you live in a 'neighborhood'. My daughter has many friends boys and girls who are black skinned (NONE from AFRICA). My son who is severly disabled went to a wonderful school 'in the hood' because of its superior special eduation program headed and taught by two wonderful black skinned teachers. I just researched the federal data base for crimes in 2009 & 2010 in America. Whites made up 67.2% of Americans, Hispanics were 14.8%, Blacks were 12.1%, Asians were 4.5%, and Native Americans & Pacific Islanders & Alaskan Native Americans were 1.4%. This is for all crimes, both state and federal combined. For some reason White and Hispanic were contained as one statistic, showing 83% of population were responsible for 68% of crime (although statisics showed Hispanics committed 40% of those crimes and 72% of Hispanic Federal crimes were committed by illegal aliens; strange way to break statistics down). Blacks, comprising 12.1% of population, committed 28% of crimes. Blacks committed 52.2% of murders and aggravated assaults and Whites & Hispanics combined committed 45.8% of murder and aggravated assaults. Blacks between 18 and 30 yrs old had 7 times the number with prison records than whites & Hispanics of the same age. That means among 12.1% of Americans, adults committed 52% of the crimes.

Statistics are just that. Babies don't get to put an order in for eye, hair, or skin color. Adults do get to make choices in life and are responsible for those choices and the results of those choices. My husband was (deceased) Puerto Rican and half of my family (he had 8 sisters, he was only boy, the baby) including those by marraige are Puerto Rican, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Black, and Mexican (and one Norwegian brother-in-law) while all four of my grandparents are Irish (from Ireland). My husband's immediate family are the nicest, most honest, hardest working, do anything to help a neighbor or family member I have ever known. I thought my family were honest, hard workers until I met his family 40 some years ago. Don't judge people by skin color but by their actions.

I heard how two white men tied a black man to a bumper and dragged him to death. I heard of a man named Dr. King who was shot for wanting better for not just blacks, but for everyone. I heard of US soldiers killing native Americans for their land. I heard of white officers beating another man named King. I heard about a white man being pulled from his truck and beaten because of a verdict. I heard about an Hispanic Marine, on leave in California, who shot and killed a white officer for no reason. A Black State Trooper in SC shot on the first day of the year after stopping a white couple. Oh, how about the white Philly Police Officer shot by a black man who was the son of a Philly Officer. So here is my question Oh Tommy Boy. What is your point? Where is your misguided hatred towards your own or towards everyone? Why only minorities?
