Two Charged in Car-Jacking, Home Invasion
Two suspects have been charged in a crime spree through east Atlanta this past Friday.
Two suspects are in custody after an alleged crime spree on Friday that included a home invasion and a police chase through east Atlanta and downtown.
East Atlanta Patch first heard about the alleged home invasion by a neighbor who sent an email just after the home invasion allegedly occurred. "One of my neighbors on Candler Street was robbed in broad daylight today," the resident said. "I heard there was a van with some men and a gun and they smashed into a house with a teenager sitting in the living room."
Late Saturday afternoon, Officer K.Y. Jones, a spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department, told East Atlanta Patch that several young males stole a minivan in the Edgewood Shopping Center on Moreland Avenue.
"That van was used in a home invasion at 500 block of Candler Street," Jones said in a statement. "A juvenile in the house fled the house when the suspects made entry."
After the home invasion, the suspects then carjacked a white Honda nearby. After a lookout was issued on the car by Atlanta police, an officer radioed that he had spotted the vehicle.
"The Honda immediately fled the scene followed by the stolen minivan," Jones said. After a police chase, the Honda struck another vehicle at the intersection of Marietta Street and Ivan Allen Boulevard. The two suspects fled the scene on foot but were apprehended near the Georgia Aquarium.
"Inside the Honda, officers recovered two hand guns," Jones said. One of the guns had been reported stolen. "Also inside was a TV, camera and other items taken from the home invasion. These items were identified by the home owner who responded to the accident scene."
Jones said the stolen minivan was located by Georgia Tech police officers at Bobby Dodd and Ivan Allen. A TV that was allegedly stolen from the Candler Street home was found inside the vehicle.
